The King of Fighters 2002 PC Game Challenge to Ultimate Battle is a competitive fighting video game produced by Eolith & Playmore for Neo Geo. This is the 9th game in King of Fighters game series and second one to be produced by the Eolith which developed by Playmore. The game was ported to Dreamcast, PlayStation 2, and Xbox. Wherein the PS2 & Xbox versions released in North America in two-in-one bundle with following game in series, The King of Fighters 2003 PC Game. NONA returned to do the character artwork, as well as he had done since previous installment.
SNK Playmore produced remake titled King of Fighters 2002 Unlimited Match for PlayStation 2. W+hich released on 26th February, 2009 in Japan. Also Xbox Live Arcade version, on other hand, it was released on 3rd November, 2010. A port of Xbox Live Arcade was released on Steam on 27th February, 2015.
The King of Fighters 2002 has discarded 4-on-4 “Striker Match” format which used in previous three games in series. And returned to 3-on-3 Battle format that originally used in series up until KOF ’98 PC Game.
These game also revamped Power Gauge system into format similar to one used in King of Fighters ’97. As like previous games in these series, Power Gauge was filled as player attacked opponent or performed all Special Moves during the battle. In addition, number of Power Gauges player could stock up which is increased by one with every member of the team. Example, first member of the team who could stock up to 3 Power Gauges. While 3rd member could stock up to 5. Single Power Gauge stock could have used to either perform Counterattack. Evasion technique in the time of guarding an opponent’s attack.
Use Super Special Moves, or initiate MAX Activation state. Same case also applies to 1-on-1 format, in where Power Gauge player could stock up also increased by one with every round loss. Example, on the 1st round, player could stock up to 3 Power Gauges, at the time of losing two rounds allows player to stock up to 5.
